6th-7th-8th grade Counseling
8th grade APD
When I'm not chasing junior high kids.....I'm chasing beagles and horses. You may find me kayaking, camping, playing in my garden, hiking to a lake, or planning a trip somewhere. One of my favorite things to do is to sit around a campfire with family and friends laughing and enjoying the moment!
I graduated from Montana State University-Billings with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Special Education and in Elementary Education. I graduated from Montana State University-Northern with a Master's degree in Counseling and Development. I have 30 years of classroom and counseling experience. I have worked at the junior high level in Columbia Falls since the Fall of 1990. I am a member of the Flathead Valley Quick Response Team which assists area schools with grief support for staff and students when tragedy strikes. I am also our junior high site coordinator for the Olweus Bully Prevention Program. Recently I completed level 1 of Master Gardening and started our Wildcat Peace Garden here at the Junior High. We have been awarded a research grant through the Montana Extension Service to look at how cold weather cultivars of apples, pears, and plums fair in our zone 3/4 growing area. We have planted over 48 fruit trees. This past spring JH wood shop students built raised garden beds. Students enjoyed planting many varieties of seeds including Pumpkin Hill. As I write this in September, students are in the process of harvesting tomatoes, kale, beets, carrots, sunflowers, parsley, peas, beans, basil, and yes...60 lb. pumpkins. Lots of them!!! All produce will be used for a "Taste of the Garden" monthly experience during September - October - and November. Selected classes will harvest garden produce, make it into delicious recipes and then serve to the student body during a lunchtime "tasting." Much more gardening to come!!! I love working with junior high aged kids! Every day is a new day full of humor, drama, and surprises.
